The Profound Collection
Profound was raised in Bolingbrook, a suburb just west of Chicago, Emcee Profound earned his stripes battling in Chicago clubs like the Elbo Room, where he hung out with artists such as JUICE, Rubberoom and Jesse De La Pena. He brings to the table clever rhymes, a powerful voice, acrobatic rhyme patterns and profound stories. His inspiration comes largely from his own personal life experience and observation.
As the winner of MTV's first online Mc battle in 1999 the battle tested emcee won a coveted single deal with then rap powerhouse Loud Records. Due to distribution issues and management decisions the deal concluded in payment. He pressed on. He recorded intros for Trey the Choklit Jok and the Hot Boys on Power 92.3 FM. He's been a regular on Mike Love re-mixes, adding a few bars to songs like Jermaine Dupri's "Welcome to the ATL '' and Clipse's "Grind," adding local flavor. He teamed up with Iomos Marad and Single-Minded Pros to deliver the anthemic track "Chicago Emcees."
After years of tantalizing fans with clever wordplay and a delivery that intertwines the sincerity of De La Soul's Posdnous with the force of OC, he completed several projects including his first new release "4 Da Love." A 13-track compilation, The CD features production by notable artists such as No ID, Tony Baines, DJ Emmaculate and Coolout Chris. Standout tracks include the club-worthy “Higher” “Weekend Girls”, “Heart of Streets” and the introspective “4daLove”
In addition to “4daLove” Profound is also this close to completing a mixtape collaboration with DJ Risky Business and another full-length project titled “Distant Gratification” that speaks to the time, travel and effort it took to complete the project that features Dug Infinite, NO ID, Masta Ace, Craig G, Wordsworth and newcomer Disko Dave. Always working to perfect his craft and meticulous stage performance, Profound has also become a comparable producer in his own right studying under the aforementioned NO ID and Dug Infinite who also mentored Kanye West at one time. Now years later, the father of six maintains his unfettered confidence. And with new management and several lessons learned, Profound is staging a resurgence that could propel him in the direction he was headed early on in his musical journey.
